A California engagement session...in Pennsylvania

AMN_6835-Edit.jpg

It was late march, 2013. The road in my rear view was far stretching and dimly lit. I had spent the better part of 2 weeks traveling north, and shooting the beloved, yet numbingly algid northern sport of ice hockey. Seeking a break from the frigid confines of the penalty box, I sought out a friend whose face and voice had yet to be connected.

For years, Bubba and I had been the type of friends that could have never been paired in a pre internet society. Forming a tight knit but scarcely acknowledged bond through endless hours of online gaming, we became the faceless kin of an online brotherhood. I myself being a person who relishes in the presence of friendly hearts, always look for ways to bring about impending human connections. Thus, knowing Bubba had recently betrothed his long time love. I knew the time had come for he and I to amalgamate our brotherhood with our humans.

During the time off, between the frigid work environment that had brought me north to Pennsylvania, I set fourth to capture the beautiful moment in the lives of Dani Lynn and Bubba Russell. As a photographer, I couldn't allow myself to miss the opportunity to create these digital memories for the two of them to hold throughout the rest of their lives together. So with a turn of a key and a map in my hand I set out to California. California, Pennsylvania that is.

I was not prepared for the fierce and unstoppable evil that was set against me on the paved corridor that was between them and I... AKA Pennsylvania tolls FREAKING SUCK! ugh. Sorry, they really got my wallet and my blood flowing in a negative way. Anyways... On my arrival to the home of Bubba and Dani, I was greeted with a warm and awkward bro embrace, from the man I had long known but never crossed souls with.

Through the limited time I spent in the charming home of Dani and Bubba, I felt like I was at home with friends who I had known for ages. They are such a fun and warmly loving couple who fit together like two incredibly muscular legos. I had such a great time shooting their engagement session among the wild and beautiful back country of their home land around California PA. The trees were still bare, as the warm caress of spring had yet to bestow the life of the leaves through the naked branches. Fortunately, the warm love emanating from these two was more than enough to make up for the brisk breath of mother nature that afternoon.

As a photographer, there are many times when it becomes about posing and creating love for the camera, but this was not the case on this cool spring day. Dani and Bubba were such a pleasure to shoot. Their love for each other was pure and whole. Words do nothing to describe the beautiful love shared between them, so I will let the photos speak that emotion to your eyes as only they can.

Okay that was all for you Bub, hope you liked it. I can see you tearing up after finishing that last line. Your welcome ;). Anyways, Bubba and Dani were kind enough to answer some questions about their life together and their big day coming up on saturday. So now enjoy some photos from their engagement session, along with a little bit of their story. I am so happy for you two, and hope you have a blast on your wedding day this weekend and a wonderful honeymoon. :)

When did you know he/she was the one? Was there something he/she did?, etc.

Danielle- "I knew that Bubba was the one because of the way he made me feel.  It is hard to find someone who can make you feel both "at home" yet still give you butterflies even 3 years after being together.  A saying that holds true to us, although I don't always like it, is "absence makes the heart grow fonder". About a year ago Bubba had to leave for a month to work in Rome. That time away made me realize how much I truly cared for him and it was during that time that I knew he was the one."

Bubba-

"I knew she was the one when I was sent out of the country away from her for one month, I was actually depressed sometimes. You know how they say distance or absence makes the heart grow fonder? Well that was no joke for me on that trip."

Tell us how you first met? Who what when where why? Give us the dirty details.

"We first met mid December 2010 at California University of Pa. While out with mutual friends, we were introduced to one another. Neither one of us was looking to find a relationship at the time, though it happened anyhow ... Bubba was a senior studying electrical engineering while I was a sophomore studying speech pathology. After the first night we met we exchanged numbers, Bubba text me and asked me out a few days later! His humor and personality were so easy to fall in love with! While learning more about one another and our love for fitness, it became apparent we were going to be a great couple."

Tell us about the proposal. (Did you see it coming, how long was it in the planning?, how did you feel? nervous, excited, freaking out?)

"If anyone knows Wayne, aka Bubba, they know he takes NOTHING serious. So for some time he would fake propose in a goofy manner, and I would always say the same thing, "Not with that proposal!" It wasn't until we were moved into our new home in Glenn Cannon that Bubba got down on one knee! On November 4, 2012, after 2 and 1/2 years of dating, he nervously got down on one knee and told me that he wanted to spend forever together (amongst many other sweet things!!). Tears filled my eyes as I said "It's about time! Yes!""

Tell us the one thing you love most about each other.

Danielle- "The way he makes me laugh everyday. (His humor)"

Bubba- "I enjoy the way she acts when we are apart, even if it's just the time I'm at work, she acts very compassionate and excited just to see me."
